German Wine

German wines are unique in several respects. Until the twentieth century, Germany and France were the only countries producing exceptional wines. Unlike France, German grapevines were planted far to the north, away from the sun and yet still managed to not only survive, but to produce some of the world’s finest white wines.

Light, and with startling clarity, German wines reign supreme even if they only make up about 3% of wine produced in the world. For the German winemaker, it is not about quantity, but quality that matters and the grapes planted mostly on the mountainsides are harvested by hand and not by machine.
